About House Of Wong

Thank you for choosing to dine at Roseville’s oldest family owned restaurant with a long reputation for quality food, service and value. Established on October 6, 1958, House of Wong has a unique niche among Chinese restaurants in that the menu offers an extensive selection of quality American, Chinese and Italian entrees.

The artwork on the menu cover is an artist’s rendering of the Wong’s village and home in Southern China which still stands today. Teddy Wong was born in North Dakota, spent his school age years in China, and returned to the United States for high school.

However, he was not able to graduate because he was drafted and served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II. During the War, Teddy participated in several battle campaigns in the Pacific theatre of operations.  He returned to China following the war and married Laura in 1948. Teddy and his beautiful bride came back to North Dakota where Teddy worked at a restaurant in Fargo and first learned the art of baking stew and apple pies, signature items on the menu back then. He not only learned by watching, but poured over many recipe books and through trial and error, perfected the art of baking pies.

Having worked a few years at the Fargo Café, Teddy finally bought his first restaurant in North Dakota. Teddy and Laura moved to Minnesota in 1956 and worked together at a small take out restaurant for several years before they opened the original House of Wong in 1958 in the Roseville Shopping Center where Caribou Coffee now stands.

They worked diligently side by side over the years and together built up a successful business serving the Roseville community. Grandma Wong was also heavily involved in the business at that time.

Teddy’s tradition of baking those scrumptious apple pies is still being carried out and is very much a part of today’s menu. All recipes on the menu have been developed and tailored to meet Teddy Wong’s standards of quality and perfection and Laura’s bright smile is also a tradition that continues in today’s welcoming staff.

We at House of Wong appreciate the patronage of all of our loyal customers, some of who have been dining with us for more than 50 years.

Welcome! And enjoy your dining experience with us today!
